Why is faith important in fitness?
Merging faith and fitness is one way to live a holistically healthy life as a Christian. As a young woman, I struggled with using exercise to “fix” my body or work-off guilt after indulging in “bad foods”. As I grew in my relationship with God and learned His word, my attitude towards exercise changed. I dropped the “should exercise” attitude. Now, exercise is honoring God’s creation and being a good steward of the body He gave me. He made your body mobile, fit to do amazing things and carry you through life.
In Genesis 1, we read about God’s creation of the world and all the creatures in it. The bible says-
Everything God makes is GOOD. Our body is GOOD.
And what about the whole humanity thing? How we’re fallible, humans who make mistakes (yeah, sin) in need of Jesus? And our body, even as Christians, get sick, injured and tired. What about that? Is that GOOD too?
The brokenness of our body is not God’s creation. Our brokenness and His creation (our body) are separate. His creation is always GOOD. The brokenness comes from Adam and Eve’s choice when they ate from the tree of knowledge. The moment they tasted the fruit of that tree brokenness collided with His creation. This is where Christian’s get mixed up. Our body itself, made by God’s hand, has no flaw.
You are beautiful! You body is GOOD! This is a wonderful thing to celebrate and enjoy. So, let’s move our body. Celebrate God’s wonderful creation and care for in a loving way.
